The ongoing series of sculptures Gewöhnen (to get used to) is a form of visual journal of the architectures that the artist inhabited over the years. The sculptures – made with model-building materials and pieces of broken furniture – are based on the increasingly fading memories of the architectures in which they lived, often bland civil apartment complexes. In the process of trying to fill the mnemonic gaps, the models are redesigned using more utopian standards of modern architecture, becoming somehow less specific and more general. The final shapes are then cut, severed, maimed and finally recomposed into a mismatching collage. Architecture becomes then a monstrous, unfamiliar being rather than a melancholic place in one’s past.
